Pictures in a number of shows this year, including this one at VAS, and another later in the year.

Spent time reworking a number of pieces. Check out the Gallery page!

"The VAS solo and CAS shows went very well - plenty of interest and networking.

On reflection the first works since have been somewhat darker (Dark, Burnt, Ploughed 2024),

playing with different oils and charcoal."

After a few group shows, I'm pleased to announce a solo exhibition of Landscape Abstracts at VAS this September. Details to follow

Also some works in a new CAS group show at Gallery 314 Church Street Richmond 8th - 22nd September 2024

"Landscape 9 part of another VAS group show. It was almost hung sideways, which would have been

a landscape rather than an aerial view, and looked interesting. Just needed a bit o' blue sky."

Recent piece in Group show at VAS. I initially thought they may be more interested in smaller, figurative works. However seems to have been well received, and now talking with them about a possible solo show later in the year.

Looking at Landscapes 11, 12 and a couple of recent studies it strikes me I may have developed a bit of a style – at least for a while. That’s a scary thought! Will have to move away from that. Artists of real talent often develop identifiable styles before moving on.

Since that first exhibition has finished I seem to be spending as much time looking at and thinking about the pictures as painting, perhaps reflected in Blue Gums and another new canvas I’m currently working on. I think perhaps sometimes that’s the canvas waiting to tell you what comes next.

First 5 week solo exhibition of 13 paintings including bushfire and Australian landscapes at the Town Hall Gallery finished and successful. My thanks to all of their very helpful and professional staff. I’ll post pictures of myself with the Mayor 🙂 Two paintings sold in all.

Sept – offered my first solo exhibition for 6 weeks this time next year at the Town Hall Gallery in Hawthorn. Great generous space. Keep you posted, or a link when available.

We’ve all been trying to live and suffer with it while covid has nailed a lot of us. A very minor side effect has been limited access to canvas and materials. On the other hand more time working from home has given us more time to … paint.

Leave me a message on the Contact page. I’m open to commissions, compliments, suggestions and donations.

I think it sad a lot of people don’t seem to have seen the centre of their own country. I try to visualize and remember all the wonderful colours – the reds, yellows, the ochres, and look forward to being able to revisit them.

There is a difference between an exercise and an image that challenges you to try something different. Something you haven’t done before, to learn, to take a risk.

2019

You really don’t want to see much before this.

I was particularly motivated throughout this period by my experiences working at the Herald Sun in Melbourne during the Ash Wednesday bushfires and then later also the Black Saturday fires, where I lost a nephew.
